Mawlamyine City in Myanmar




MAWLAMYINE CITY is the forth largest city of Myanmar or Burma, situated 300 km South-east of YANGON (capital city of Myanmar) and 70 km South of Thaton, at the mouth of Thanlwin river.
         The Mawlamyine city is main trading center and has seaport in South-eastern Myanmar or Burma. The Mawlamyine city is situated in the Salween River delta, and it is also main gateway to South-eastern Myanmar.
         The Mawlamyine city is famous for tropical fruits and for its cuisine and have the Thanlwin Bridge, the largest road and rail bridge in city is the most prominent landmark in the area.
         The Mawlamyine city has several Sawmills and Ricemills as teak and rice are transported down the Salween and it was once busy shipbuilding center and remains on important port.
         The Mawlamyine  city also has a Solar-Powered Plant for extracting salt from sea water and a diesel electric plant and the city provides a multicultural dimension despite a Buddhist man majority. On 27th May,2009, three bombs explosion in Mawlamyine city were blamed on terrorists by the authorities, no casualties were reported.
