Larung Gar is a town in Serthar Country of Garze Tibetan, in the traditional Tibetan region of Kham, China.The Larung gar is a hilly town.The population of over 10,000 comprises primarily monks and nuns making it possibly the largest religious institute in the World.

The Larung Gar town is covered by total Buddhist people.In 1980, Khenpo Jigme Phuntsok founded the Larung Ngarig Buddhist Academy, in the Larung Valley near the town of Serthar, Garze prefecture, Sichuan Province.

The purpose of the Larung Gar largest religious Buddhist Institute or Academy has been to provide an ecumenical training in Tibetan Buddhism and to meet the need for renewal of meditation and scholarship all over Tibet.

Despite its remote location, located in Larung Valley,  the Larung Gar Largest Religious Buddhist institute or Academy grew from a handful of disciples gathering in Khenpo's home to be one of the largest and most influential centers for the study of Tibetan Buddhism in the World, and about 10,000 monks, nuns, and lay disciples by the tear 2000.

The Buddhist people will study under four major religious divisions in  Larung Gar Buddhist large religious institute or academy.The Serthar or Buddhist Institute have been giving the training in various divisions every year.Roughly, 10% of the nearly 10,000 students attending Serthar were ethnic Han people.

The International Religious Committee oversaw 1000 disciples from regions of the people's Republic of China and students from other Asian Countries.The Larung Gar largest religious Serthar or Buddhist Institute has operated with a standing executive committee of seven learned lamas' but major decisions were confirmed and implemented only after consultation with Khenpo Jigme Phuntsok.

Larung Gar largest Buddhist or Serthar institute has been to over 500 Khenpos holders of Bachelor's degrees in divinity and widely renowned for the high quality of both its religious.Chinese, English, and Tibetan languages and modern computer studies have been taught alongside traditional non-sectarian Buddhist Curriculum.

Chinese demolished about 2000 huts in 2001, in an attempt to curb the growth of the Buddhist large religious institute. Even though space is scarce, more than 1000 new huts are constructed every year by both Professional Crews and monks and nuns themselves with the help of their families and friends.

Larung Gar is outside the main tourist routes and few foreigners find their way there.Occasionally officials have prevented foreigners from visiting the institute, but in recent years it has been mostly accessible.The photos of Larung Gar town is beautiful and the huts are constructed.The fantastic photos of this Buddhist Institute are put in this blog for visitors.

Recently a massive blaze has destroyed around 100 huts of nuns studying at a prominent Buddhist Academy in a Tibetan area of China's Sichuan Province.The cause of the fire at the Larung Gar Buddhist Academy , serthar country has not been ascertained, with some sources saying it could have been triggered by a butter lamp in a nun's residence or by a faulty power line.

On 9th January 2014, a major fire burnt out several houses of nuns at the Larung Gar Buddhist Institute or Academy around 8:00 pm, the fire started in a nun's residence and burnt down about 100 residences, located on the backside of the main prayer hall for the nuns.

In this Buddhist Institution the visitors are banned, and around 40,000 Buddhist monks, nuns are stayed in one place, and the little huts are constructed by them, and these are constructed very systematic lanes.The nuns from Hongkong, Singapore, and Malaysia are also coming here to learn the Buddhism.
